Hops Tea & Breastfeeding

As research progresses in understanding all the benefits that are present in certain herbs and plants, we are continuously learning more about how they can improve our lives. Hops flowers in particular seem to offer a list of beneficial uses that is continuously being added to. Among the alleged benefits it has been linked to, some have claimed that drinking hops tea helps encourage milk flow in breast-feeding mothers due to the estrogenic effects that are present in this tea. Although more research is needed to confirm this, it is definitely something that can be worth looking into.

The Benefits of Hops Tea for Mothers

Administering a cup of hops to a breastfeeding mother is an age-old remedy, as many believed that drinking hops could encourage the mother’s milk supply. Other purported benefits include that drinking hops can help encourage sleep in both the mother and infant since it has been believed that some of the calming constituents of hops can be passed along through breast milk. It is generally advised to drink hops tea once at the end of the day if you are interested in trying it for improving milk supply.

Using Hops Tea

Hops tea is generally considered safe, though it is always advised for breastfeeding women and women that are pregnant to consult with a doctor prior to drinking herbal teas to stay on the safe side and ensure that there will be no adverse side effects. It is not recommended to drink this tea longer than 2 or 3 days in a row due to the estrogenic effects of this tea.
